Full code

Full code usually means the team would attempt CPR, shocks, breathing tube placement, ventilator support, and other resuscitation measures if needed.

DNR and DNI

DNR means do not attempt CPR if the heart stops. DNI means do not place a breathing tube if breathing fails. These choices can be separate depending on the situation.

Comfort-focused care

Comfort-focused care means the priority shifts toward comfort, dignity, and symptom relief rather than burdensome attempts to prolong life.

The real question

The most important question is not just what can be done. It is whether a treatment has a realistic chance of helping the patient reach an acceptable outcome.

Questions to ask the treating team

Safety boundary

For urgent symptoms or deterioration, contact the treating clinician, facility nurse/clinician, emergency services, or go to the emergency department. BridgeCare Medicine provides advisory interpretation and preparation support only. It does not replace the treating clinician or medical team.
